How to Get the Most Out of Bamboo Fencing

bambooBamboo fencing is becoming increasingly popular, in part because of how many different ways it can be used to create tasteful, natural fence lines. The most common form of bamboo fencing is the bamboo fence roll. Bamboo fence rolls are essentially a line of vertical bamboo poles that are connected by hidden wires and rolled up for storage and shipping. Once you get them to your, yard you can simply unroll them directly onto your fence supports, adding your bamboo in just minutes. Although easy to assemble, bamboo fence rolls look as if you hand attached hundreds of bamboo poles one by one. This combination of ease and elegance has made them popular.

But many homeowners aren’t sure how to get the most out of a bamboo fence. They can appreciate how beautiful bamboo looks in the yards and gardens of others, but since it isn’t a traditional landscaping material in the west, it can be hard to imagine how to put it to use in your own yard. Here are a few tips that can help you get the most out of bamboo fence rolls:

  1. Bamboo fences work especially well with Asian-inspired landscaping – You don’t have to go all-out Zen garden to make your bamboo fence look at home, but it can help to add a few other elements that complement the eastern feel. For example, a Japanese maple, an Asian statue or a small koi pond are all excellent elements in almost any garden, and help make your bamboo fence look at home.
  2. You can frame a bamboo fence to change the way it looks – We’ve seen people use large wooden fence posts that break up the bamboo, as well as add a top stringer or top and bottom stringers that give the fence a more framed look. Give these framing elements a dark, contrasting color to really set off the bamboo.
  3. Bamboo fences don’t have to be tall privacy fences – Shorter bamboo rolls are available and can be hung over chain link fence or a metal deck railing to provide a beautiful, peaceful feel to an otherwise drab space.
  4. Weatherproofing your fence will help keep it looking pristine – Bamboo can lose its blonde color over time, so consider adding a clear acrylic weatherproofing coat to keep it looking like new.

These are just a few tips, but there are hundreds of ways to put bamboo fence rolls to work in your yard. How are you planning to use bamboo fencing?
